On Wednesday, the FDA issued an alert regarding ground cinnamon sold at various dollar stores across the U.S.
Through product testing it was found that certain brands of ground cinnamon contained “elevated” levels of lead, and continued use could lead to unsafe consequences.
The FDA is asking people to throw these products out and have asked the companies to issue a recall.
The affected ground cinnamon were sold at the following retailers:
- Dollar Tree
- Family Dollar
- La Joya Morelense
- La Superior Supermercados
- Patel Brothers
- Save A Lot
- SF Supermarket

Following the massive recall of applesauce and apple purée pouches last year [sold at discounted retailers], the FDA decided to conduct a test on ground cinnamon to see if they contained lead or chromium. This is when high levels of lead were discovered.
Long-term exposure to lead can have serious effects on your health, especially for children.
