The word “Stans” is such a part of our culture now but we can credit the word to Eminem when he released the song and music video for “Stan” in November of 2000.
“Stan” was even added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary in 2019 defined as
an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan
So if a documentary about those crazy fans was to be made, who better than Eminem to be on the project? Variety broke the news that the rapper will be co-producing a documentary called Stans through his Shady Films. According to the synopsis the film will be,
revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic and enduring artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him.
Instead of focusing on the celebrity, this documentary will instead turn the camera on the fans and “explore the complex relationship between fame and super fandom.”
Stans is expected to be released later this year.
