Lizzo Wins Trademark Bid To Use Signature Phrase On Merchandise

Lizzo has obtained exclusive trademark rights for her catchphrase “100% That B***h,” to be used on goods. The USPTO permitted Melissa Viviane Jefferson, known as Lizzo, to register the term as a federal trademark on clothes. Last year, the agency rejected Jefferson’s bid to trademark “100% That B***h” as a “motivational phrase” for “female empowerment” rather than a brand.  On February 2, USPTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) overturned the ruling, claiming that customers seeing the slogan on a t-shirt would think of the singer.
