People in Knoxville, and East TN in general, love visiting Ijams Nature Center, whether it be for a hike, picnic, or just to take in the beautiful scenery. However, in order to maintain its upkeep, the center introduced a paid parking program, in February, that charges visitors. With that said, they announced several days throughout the year where people can park for free.
The free parking days fall on holidays and breaks for Knox County schools:
- Wednesday of Knox County School Break: March 13
- Spring Into Hope for Mental Health: Saturday, April 6
- National Trails Day: Saturday, June 1
- Wednesday of Knox County Fall Break: October 9
- Veteran’s Day: Monday, November 11
- Black Friday (Opt Outside Day): Friday, November 20
Any other day you visit Ijams parking will cost $5 per vehicle per day. All members get to park for free.
Ijams offers different levels of membership which come with different types of benefits. You can get more info (including cost) here.
The money made from parking will go towards parking lot renovations and any improvements needed around the nature center.
