No need to panic, it’s just a test!
On Wednesday, October 4th, FEMA alongside the FCC will be issuing a nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA). These tests will be sent to all televisions, radios, satellite broadcasts, and cell phones across the United States.
According to the press release from FEMA, the purpose of the test is to make sure that all alert systems are working properly shall there ever be a national emergency that the public needs to be aware of such as severe weather or a zombie apocalypse.
A loud alert will come to your cell phone along with the message:
THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.
This is only the second time a nationwide test is being conducted on cell phones.
The EAS test that’ll come through your TV and radio is the one you’re already familiar to hearing.
Alerts are expected to go off around 2:20 p.m. ET.
Shall the purge sound go off… then I’d say it’s time to panic.
