How To Deal With Guilt, According To Science
Can medicine help you stop feeling guilty? No, but apparently fake medicine can. That’s what scientists discovered in a recent test measuring the so-called ‘placebo effect’ on feelings of guilt. Test subjects were asked to write down something they felt guilty about. They were then given a pill to take – with half told it was real medication while the other half were told it was only a placebo. Turns own, both placebo groups showed improvement compared to a third group that received no treatment. It might seem irrational, but scientists believe the study could help develop treatments for things like depression.
