One of my biggest fears, and I’m sure I’m not the only one, is getting stuck on a roller coaster or some type of amusement park ride.
Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, Oregon was celebrating their opening weekend when things got off to a rocky start. On Friday, June 14th, a ride called “AtmosFEAR” was holding 28 people when all of a sudden the ride stopped and people were stuck upside down, 50 feet in the air. The pendulum ride swings people up and down (360 degrees) while the circle [everyone is sitting in] spins at the same time.
Park officials called 911 and about 25 minutes later, were able to get everyone off safely. The park ended up closing the rest of the day while they investigate what happened to the ride.
According to the amusement park, the ride has been in operation since 2021 with no incidents until now. They say it’ll remain closed until further notice.
The TikTok video below shows the ride in motion and then it stopping.
@evie_s_y I was trapped with my 10 friends upside down for 26 minutes on the Atmosfear at Oaks Park in Portland, Oregon. Multiple people threw up, we all still have a headache and are very sore. We still had to finish the ride once we got out of the ipside down position which was very hard on our bodies. Never go to Oaks Park! @ace #fyp #oakspark #portlandoregon
