Check your freezer because more than 16,000 pounds of ground beef sold at Walmart is being recalled due to E. coli concerns.

The USDA issued the recall on May 1st. The meat was distributed by Cargill Meat Solutions and produced on April 26 and 27th. This includes ground beef chuck and chuck patties, angus beef, prime rib patties, and sirloin patties; all in various size packaging.

Cargill Meat Solutions alerted authorities to a possible cross-contamination with another product that was found to contain E. coli, so the recall is out of caution. No illnesses have been reported.

The beef was sent to Walmart stores all across the country. All of the affected products have an establishment number of “EST. 86P” printed on the back. People are asked to throw the meat away or return to Walmart for a refund.

E. coli is a bacteria “that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps.” While most people recover, some may develop a type of kidney disease. E. coli is especially dangerous to older adults and children under 5-years-old.

You can find more info about the recall, and see if you have one of the affected products, here.
