‘Winning Time’ Canceled At HBO After Two Seasons
HBO has confirmed that ‘Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty’ will end after two seasons. The news broke only moments after the network aired the second-season finale Sunday night. The show, based on Jeff Pearlman’s ‘Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s,’ and focused on the Laker’s rise in the early 1980s, saw a drop in ratings in the seven-episode second season, which has covered multiple years in focusing on the team’s rivalry with the Boston Celtics. The show triggered some controversy, with past players criticizing the program’s accuracy, being called “dishonest” and a “crude stick-figure representation” of the actual people involved by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jerry West.
