Looks like we might have some R&Beef , as I like to call it on our hands. In an interview with Variety, The Weeknd talked about the influence of his music on mainstream R&B/Pop music. In the interview he spefically mentions, Usher’s “Climax” as a song that he felt he influenced, even saying that he was upset when he first heard it.

House of Balloons’ literally changed the sound of pop music before my eyes,” he says without exaggeration. “I heard ‘Climax,’ that [2012] Usher song, and was like, ‘Holy f—, that’s a Weeknd song.’ It was very flattering, and I knew I was doing something right, but I also got angry. But the older I got, I realized it’s a good thing.

Yesterday on Instagram, Usher respond, subtly, while doing the #ClimaxChallenge (listen closely at the end)

The writer of “Climax,” Elijah Blake, was not so subtle, comparing The Weeknd’s vocals to a goat sobbing and a house fan.
