Update 8/17/2021:

“Blinding Lights” broke the record for the longest-charting hot 100 hit of all time. The song is now in its 88th week on the Billboard Hot 100 passing “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons that spent 87 weeks on the chart. “Blinding Lights” debuted at No. 11 on the chart in December 2019,  hit No. 1 in April 2020 and is currently #18 on the chart.

In a move that has to question the credibility of the GRAMMY Awards, that are happening this Sunday, The Weeknd has done something that no artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 has ever done, his smash single “Blinding Lights” has spent a full year (52 weeks) in the top 10 of the chart. In addition making that history, he also tied The Chainsmokers (ft. Halsey) “Closer” and Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” spending 27 weeks in the top 3 and logged his 43rd week in the top 5 of the same chart, which is 16 more than any other song. Despite the longevity of the song on the chart, he was snubbed at this year’s GRAMMY show not getting a single nomination, and considered that as the show un-inviting him to perform at the event.
