The hip-hop world has been in a craze ever since Kendrick Lamar took shots at Drake & J. Cole on the song “Like That.” It sparked debates over who really is the best, what are Cole and Drake going to do/say, and had people hyped that there was going to be a new rap beef.
On April 5th, J. Cole surprised fans with a new project titled Might Delete Later, the tape included the song “7 Minute Drill” which fired back at Kendrick:
He still doin’ shows, but fell off like the Simpsons
Your first sh*t was classic, your last sh*t was tragic
Your second sh*t put n***** to sleep, but they gassed it
Your third sh*t was massive and that was your prime
I was trailin’ right behind and I just now hit mine
Now I’m front of the line with a comfortable lead
How ironic, soon as I got it, now he want somethin’ with me
Well, now, J. Cole has backtracked for firing back and said it was the “lamest” thing he’s ever done in his life. During his Dreamville Festival, on Sunday 4/7, J. Cole took the stage and addressed the crowd saying he’s proud of his new project except for one thing. He spoke on being conflicted with the pressure he felt from the world and how he feels about his peers. Cole went on to say the beef “disrupted his peace” and loudly showed his love for Kendrick, even getting the audience involved, saying he’s the “greatest to ever touch a microphone.”
